Spike is our favorite fish in our 125 gallon salt water tank. He is a long-horned Cowfish (Lactoria Cornuta). They are found in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. He could get as large as 20″ in the wild, but are only know to get 16″ or so in an aquarium. The genus Lactoria, and especially Cornuta, must be dealt with carefully. If overly harassed or stressed, it can release a toxic substance called ostracitoxin. This is a response to stress and can poison the whole tank. His teeth will continually grow throughout his life so we will need to supplement his diet with some hard shelled foods. Occasionally offering foods such as live ghost shrimp and various live snails will keep his teeth worn down.
I had surgery on a pilonidal cyst in between my tail bone and the top of my butt crack yesterday. It is starting to hurt today, but they gave me lots of happy pills! Here are some gory pictures of my butt, click on them if you dare!
